POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is full time short term. Under general administrative direction performs supervisor and specialized work in staffing, planning, organizing, directing, and regulating the operations and maintenance of the swimming facility at the Natural Oasis to meet local and state standards.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Nature of Work: This position is responsible for ensuring that the swimming facility is operated in a safe, sanitary and efficient manner.
2. Personal Contacts: Frequent contact with the public, supervisors and fellow employees and subordinate.
3. Supervision Received: General direction of the Department Director.
4. Supervision Exercised: Daily supervision of swimming pool employees.
AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: Responsible for protecting the safety and health of patrons using the swimming facilities; strictly enforces all rules, regulations and procedures associated with the facility; monitors and guarantees the facility and water according to standards; clearly posts rules and emergency telephone number; schedules all pool activities, plans; supervises lifeguards; develops aquatic curriculum schedule; promotes, registers, supervises, and instructs swimming classes; actively promotes pool activities through a variety of sources; assists in preparing yearly budget.
Other duties include: receives and logs collected fees; examines paper work for Red Cross cards; issues cards to eligible students; ensures that the pool, building and equipment are properly maintained and notifies the Department Director if problems exists; properly operates and maintains filter system; vacuums pool as needed; monitors gauges and flow meters; makes minor repairs on pool equipment; notifies the Department Director of any health problems and provides appropriate information and documentation; ensures that all equipment and materials are properly stored and inventoried, and performs other duties as directed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
KNOWLEDGE: This position requires comprehensive knowledge of: first aid procedures, water safety equipment, treating of water, chemical application and storage, record-keeping, water safety equipment, and first aid response and treatment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skill in swimming and life guarding techniques are required. This position requires the ability to maintain and operate swimming pool equipment and facilities, to supervise and evaluate personnel, to give clear written and oral instructions, to left approximately 50 pounds waist high, calculates and adds chemicals according to standards, keep accurate records, and establish and maintain good working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors and the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The above knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least ten years of life guarding experience and possession of or the ability to obtain the following special requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The City Council may establish certification requirements as appropriate. Certification requirements that shall be required include: Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Water Safety Instruction (WSI), Life Saving, Advanced Life Saving, and First Aid.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with health inspectors, supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
